Jin (zi Ting-yu) had his origins in Ze Subprefecture in Shan-xi...He was appointed as a Messenger and sent to fan lands...He assisted the Minister Wang Ji in the expedition against Lu-chuan and was promoted to vice minister of the right in the Ministry of Rites. Subsequently, he was ordered to take on the post of grand defender in Yun-nan and act as circumstances dictated. He again waged an attack against the remnant Lu-chuan bandits.
