Cheng-hua: Year 18, Month 8, Day 15
28 Aug 1482
The Yun-nan defence officials memorialized: "Zhang Ping, a person from Lang-qiong County, led 10-plus persons in travelling around to tell fortunes (賣卜). They travelled from Bai-sha and others camps (營) in Yuan-jiang Prefecture, along the river and then, using a by-path, they stole across the border. Thereupon they were seized by Tao Song, the native official of Shui-wei Subprefecture in Annam, and sent back in fetters. A further two persons named Li Jia and Yang Bao-chun were sent back in a boat along the water route, but it is not known where they have ended up. Those who have arrived back have been sentenced to death by strangulation. As for the two persons who have not arrived, we are making enquiries in their native domiciles." The memorial was sent to Ministry of War which requested that a despatch be sent reproving the officials and requiring that they ensure that the various passes and fords be carefully guarded, and that the previously-used by-path be blocked. The Emperor approved this.
