Hong-wu: Year 11, Month 1, Day
Jan/Feb 1378
In this month, the ministers Chen Jian-chen and Ruan Shi-e, who had been sent by Wei, the younger brother of Chen Tuan of Annam, came and informed of Tuan's death. Previously, the Court had sent an envoy to confer the best silks (上尊文綺) on Chen Tuan, but when the envoy arrived, Tuan had already died. His younger brother Wei was handling the affairs of state, and he sent an envoy to present a memorial expressing gratitude for Imperial kindness, to offer tribute of trained elephants and local products and to inform of Tuan's death. It was Imperially ordered that clothing be conferred upon Jian-chen, Shi-e and the others and that they be given patterned fine silks and silk gauzes to be conferred upon Wei. The Imperial Commissioner Chen Neng was sent to that country to offer sacrifices for the deceased.
