Chen Shu-ming of Annam had previously received Imperial orders allowing him to use the former king's seal in managing the affairs of state. In this month, the Principal Grand Master Ruan Shi-zong, whom he had sent, presented a memorial to express gratitude for Imperial kindness and offered local products as tribute. Chen Shu-ming also requested that, as he was already aged, his younger brother [Chen] Tuan be allowed to replace him in looking after the administration. This was approved.
