Jia-jing: Year 16, Month 10, Day 23
25 Nov 1537
The Yun-nan Grand Coordinator Wang Wen-sheng and others advised: "Diao Lei, the native official of Guang-ling Subprefecture in Annam, pacified and instructed the yi chieftain Diao Zhen and others and brought them to surrender. It is requested that headwear and a belt be conferred upon him. Pa-ya, a member of the native-official ruling family of the Laos Pacification Superintendency, on hearing that there is to be an expedition to punish Annam, was the first to be roused. Further, his territory is broad and his troops numerous and the country of Annam fears it. He can act alone as a force. Diao Lan-na, a member of the native-official ruling family of the Ba-bai Pacification Superintendency and Diao Kan, a member of the native-official ruling family of the Che-li Pacification Superintendency reside in places located close to Laos and Diao Jiao, a member of the native-official ruling family of Meng-gen Prefecture resides upriver from Laos. All of these persons have many troops and elephants and they can be prepared for the punitive expedition. It is requested that the usual investigation be dispensed with and that these people be instructed to inherit their posts locally. Laos should be ordered to encamp its troops at Mu-zhou to await the punitive attack. It should also be stated that all the territory it takes will be placed under its rule." The memorial was Imperially approved.
