Jia-jing: Year 27, Month 7, Day 5

Pan Zhen, the retired vice minister of the left in the Ministry of War, died. Sacrifices and a funeral were conferred in accordance with the precedents. Zhen had his origins in Wu-yuan County, Hui-zhou Prefecture. In the ren-xu year of the Hong-zhi reign (1502/03) he passed the metropolitan examinations.... He was promoted to vice minister of the right in the Nan-jing Ministry of War and not long after was transferred to the Ministry of War. He remonstrated against the expedition to Annam. For opposing the Imperial will, he was dismissed. He thus returned home and, at this time, he died..
