The Ministry of Rites memorialized: "The chieftain Lei Nei and others, who have been sent by Dao Ban-ya Zhe, the pacification superintendent of the Ba-bai/Da-dian Military and Civilian Pacification Superintendency* to offer tribute of elephants, horses and local products, have arrived in the capital. They have been fully rewarded in accordance with the regulations, but Nei and so on have requested that native-official clothing be conferred upon them. However, in the past, clothing has not been conferred upon native officials." It was Imperially commanded that two pieces of brocade and four bolts each of ramie-silk and silk gauzes be conferred upon the native officials, and that three bolts each of ramie-silk and silk gauzes be conferred upon the wives of the native officials. * Ying-zong juan 190.14b notes, however, that Ban-ya Zhe had been appointed as the pacification superintendent of Laos.
