Mu Zeng, the native-official prefect of Li-jiang in Yun-nan, had, in defending against the lu (Alt: defending against the Mongols), been driven to illness. He thus applied for permission to be replaced and seek seclusion in the mountains. This was approved and he was granted the rank of retired administration vice commissioner of the left in the administration commission of the province as a reward for his loyalty and righteousness.
