several thousand Jiao yi and led them in attacking the inner territory. All the villages they passed through were almost completely destroyed. They reached the walls of the Shang-si Subprefectural seat before government troops firmly opposed them and they withdrew. The Guang-dong/Guang-xi Supreme Commander Zhou Jia-mo and the grand coordinator memorialized requesting that in the city which had been taken a major garrison be established and that 3,000 troops be conscripted and deployed at strategic points. They further noted that an additional 20,000-plus jin (Alt: 30,000-plus jin) was essential for rations. They proposed retaining the province's commercial taxes to provide for military rations and that the various native offices be required to annually provide chieftains and troops to guard Cang-wu and other areas. An Imperial order was issued requiring that the ministry deliberate on the matter and re-submit a memorial.
