The Auxiliary Ministry of War memorialized: "The troops of the Da-xing Left Guard, over 200 in number, were originally native people from Si-chuan, Jiao-zhi, Yun-nan and Gui-zhou. During the Xuan-de reign they were brought within the forces at the capital. Now they are mostly old and sick, and unfit for their duties. Permission is requested to have them sent back to to their original areas to guard the border passes." The Emperor said: "We should show the distant peoples sympathy. If we send them back, they will indeed be out of place. They are to be especially allowed to remain. Instruct the relevant offices to show them proper concern and sympathy."
