The Cheng-shan Marquis Wang Tong, regional commander of Jiao-zhi, and others returned to the capital. The civil and military officials jointly submitted an impeachment memorial stating that Tong, the Commissioner-in-chief Ma Ying, the officials Chen Zhi, Li An and Fang Zheng, who were serving in order to realize achievements, the Provincial Administration Commissioner Yi Qian and the eunuch officials Shan Shou and Ma Qi had committed the offences of violating orders, taking it upon themselves to make peace with the bandits, abandoning a city and withdrawing the troops. The Emperor ordered the dukes, marquises, earls and officials of the five auxiliary military commissions, the six auxiliary ministries and the Censorate to jointly investigate the case.
