It was ordered that Liu Deng inherit the post of hereditary vice commander ( ) of Chong-qing Guard. Previously, Deng's father [Li] Cong had been a houseman in Yang-zhou Guard. The whole city had come to allegiance and he was appointed as a guard vice commander. Later he accompanied the expedition to Jiao-zhi, where he died in battle. The Auxiliary Ministry of War said that Deng should not inherit his father's post. The Emperor, considering Cong's achievements, especially ordered that Deng inherit the post of vice commander.
