The bandit Tao Qiang and others from Shan-cai County in Jia-lin Subprefecture, Jiao-zhi, rebelled. The Commissioners Liu Zhen, Yu Zan and Wu Xing led troops to attack them. Zhen and the others did not maintain discipline among their troops and let them engage in violence and plunder. The bandits pretended to discard their belongings and flee again, but they set an ambush for the government troops, who were thereby defeated. The bandits pursued them to the Fu-liang River and intended to cross, but the Commissioner Chen Jun fought back strongly and prevented them from doing so. As the bandit strength was growing, the Feng-cheng Marquis Li Bin, regional commander of Jiao-zhi, quickly sent the Commissioner Geng Rong to lead mounted troops to go to their assistance. The bandits thereupon retreated and fled.
