Fang An, administration vice commissioner of the right in the Jiao-zhi Provincial Administration Commission, died. An had his origins in Ru-yang.....He was then appointed as administration vice commissioner of the right in the Shan-dong Provincial Administration Commission. Wei Ying, of the same office, falsely accused An of slander, for which An was sent to prison. He was unable to withstand the severe punishment there and admitted all charges. Thus, his entire family was banished to Jiao-zhi. While An was in prison, Ying was found to have been involved in a crime and, on investigation, it was discovered that his charges against An had been unfounded. Thus, An was released and his family was called back. He was transferred to the post of administration vice commissioner of the right in Si-chuan. Not long after, he was transferred to Jiao-zhi. At this time, he died of illness. In his long service as an official, wherever he went he was severe in his government and this was often resented by the people. However, he was incorruptible and was self-disciplined.
