The Ying-guo Duke Zhang Fu, regional commander of Jiao-zhi, arrived at Nan-ning and memorialized: "Chen Ji-kuo, the rebellious bandit of Jiao-zhi, has outwardly indicated that he is according and is loyal, but inwardly he is actually treacherous and guileful. The rebellious nature of Ruan Shuai and the others shows clearly that they will remain unrepentant till the end. It is requested that troops be advanced to eliminate them."
