Imperial orders of instruction were sent to Gong Xiang, the pacification commissioner of the Long-chuan Pacification Commission in Yun-nan and his son, the Chief (長官) Tian Li*. The orders read: "Recently, the regional commander and other officials have memorialized that you have been feuding with the local company commander Dao Mu-li and also engaged in killing. The people are greived and angry and are planning to kill both you and your son. I am especially ordering the regional commander to transfer you to Yun-nan so that you will not lose your place, and also requiring him to send officials to Long-chuan to collect your family members so that you can all be together. When things have settled down, matters will be handled with grace. Those persons who have done wrong will indeed be punished in accordance with the law. You and your son should manifest my sympathetic will. Do not harbour doubts or fears!" * In Ying-zong juan 130.7a, the name of Gong Xiang's son is noted as Gong Li (恭立).
