It was ordered that Wang Tong take up the post of assistant commissioner-in-chief of the Central Military Commission and take responsibility for supervising the defence of Jiu-men. Tong was formerly enfeoffed as the Cheng-shan Marquis, but for involvement in defeat (坐失) in Jiao-zhi, he was demoted to commoner. At this time, he was pardoned and employed.
