Imperial orders of instruction were sent to Li Lin, the king of the country of Annam. The orders read: "Your memorial has been received. You, king, have restrained and investigated Yuan-hong and his son and have arranged the return of all that which has been occupied or stolen. Your accordance with propriety and your respect for the laws are thereby evident. You also memorialized that the native-official magistrate Zhao Ren-zheng and so on of An-ping Subprefecture had attacked and occupied territory and carried off people and livestock. The An-yuan Marquis Liu Pu, regional commander of Guang-xi, and the three offices of Guang-xi have been ordered to investigate the facts and memorialize, so that a decision can be taken. In future, you, king, should warn your people on the border that they must guard their own territory and not recklessly start border troubles, as thereby they will bring calamity upon themselves."
