The Auxiliary Ministry of Rites advised: "The Assistant Guard Commander Cao Zhong and other officials from the Nan-hai Guard and other guards under the Guang-dong Military Commission were escorting to the capital the elephants and rhinoceros which had been presented as tribute by the country of Champa, when one of the rhinoceros died en route. Zhong and so on should be charged with the crime of negligence." The Emperor especially pardoned them.
