Luo Fu-ren, a Han-lin compiler, and Zhang Fu, a secretary in the Ministry of War, who had been sent to issue Imperial commands, returned from Annam. They said that Annam had proffered gold, kapok (吉貝) and other goods as presents, but that they had refused and not accepted these. The Emperor said: "It was correct to refuse the presents." He ordered the Secretariat to confer upon the envoy Mo Ji-long a further 50 liang of silver and then to send him home.
