It was ordered that the An-ping Earl Li An take on the post of assistant regional commissioner, proceed to Jiao-zhi and there, together with the Rong-chang Earl Chen Zhi, take control of military matters. Orders of encouragement, as follows, were conferred: "Your father was wise and reasoning. He put all his efforts into his actions and was exceedingly loyal to the state. I have never forgotten this. You have already demonstrated your abilities, are continuing your father's ideals by following a military career and are thoroughly versed in strategies. I am pleased with you. Now I am entrusting you with this region. You should be very careful and prudent, and must put all your efforts into effective planning so as to realize great achievements. In this way, you will be honouring your father and fulfilling the commission with which you have been entrusted. Respect this!"
