It was ordered that Shen Tao, a junior compiler in the Han-lin Academy, go as chief envoy and that Xu Tian-xi, a supervising secretary of the left in the Office of Scrutiny for Works, go as deputy envoy, to take credentials with which to enfeoff [Li] Yi, the second son of Li Hui, the king of the country of Annam, as the king of the country of Annam. Previously Hui had passed away, but the heir [Li] Jing died before he could be enfeoffed. When Jing was extremely ill, he entrusted the country to Yi, who thus sent the attendant minister Ruan Bao-gui and others to bring a memorial, offer tribute of local products and request enfeoffment. The Emperor approved this and conferred upon Yi a ceremonial leather cap, a set of formal robes and a set of ordinary robes.
