The Jing-yuan Earl Wang Ji memorialized: "In the 13th year of the Zheng-tong reign (1448/49), I received orders to lead the troops on expedition against the Meng-yang bandit Si Ji-fa. My son Wang Xiang repeatedly realized outstanding achievements. He was jealously hated by the evil minister Yu Qian and thus was only promoted to a circulating-official assistant guard commander, receiving a salary from the Embroidered-Uniform Guard...."
