Tian-shun: Year 1, Month 6, Day 2
23 Jun 1457
The attendant minister Li Wen-lao of the country of Annam memorialized: "The `Book of Odes' and the `Book of Documents' are able to regulate people's hearts, while medicine and acupuncture can prolong people's lives. From long in the past, our country has always relied on Chinese literature and medicinal materials in gaining clarification about morals and principles and in increasing our life-span. Now, it is requested that, in accordance with the old customs, I be permitted to trade the local products and aromatics I have brought for those things which we do not have, and be allowed to take these back to assist us." This was approved.
