The Censor-in-chief of the Right Ma Ming-luan, former vice minister of war, and supreme commander of Xuan-fu/Da-tong, was posthumously promoted to Minister of War. Ming-luan had his origins in Nei-jiang, Si-chuan and he passed the metropolitan examinations in the jia-xu year of the Wan-li reign (1574/75).... He was promoted to assistant surveillance commissioner of Hu-guang and then to deputy surveillance commissioner of Yun-nan. When the Ava-Burma bandits engaged in their trouble-making, he assisted the troops in planning the capture of Yue Feng and his son. Many others were captured, beheaded or pacified. He also received Imperial orders to build a walled city at Da-hou. For his achievements, he was promoted to administration vice commissioner of Hu-guang.... At this time, he died in office.
