Xuan-de: Year 2, Month 3, Day 11
7 Apr 1427
7 Apr 1427
On this day, the Li bandit in Jiao-zhi attacked and encircled Qiu-wen. The Commissioner Sun Ju led troops to strengthen the defences. They erected a watch-tower and arranged ballista (飛砲) and cannons (神銃) for defence. The bandits thus did not dare come close. However, the grain stores within the city were low and a person was secretly sent with an urgent message for the Zhen-yuan Marquis Gu Xing-zu, the "General for Subduing the Man". Xing-zu sent the guard commander Yang Zheng and others with grain under armed escort to deliver via a by-path.
