The Auxiliary Ministry of War memorialized: "Previously, the Regional Commander and Assistant Commissioner-in-chief Shan Yun requested an increase in troops, as Guang-xi lacked sufficient troops for defence. It is proposed that the government troops of the various guards in Hu-guang who are returning from Jiao-zhi, be used to supplement the forces." The Emperor ordered that those who had returned to Guang-xi were to remain there, while those who had not yet arrived were to be ordered to return to their original guards and battalions.
