In Yun-nan, the Dong-tang (東倘) Chief's Office was established, but it was left under the jurisdiction of the Ava-Burma Pacification Superintendency. At this time, the Ava-Burma Pacification Superintendent Xi-de was planning to kill the Dang-tang (當蕩) chieftain Xin-ba-di and seize his territory. Xin-ba-di sent his son Mang Zhi to the Court to offer tribute of elephants, horses and local products. He memorialized requesting that an office be established and an official be appointed, in order that they might avoid the calamities of invasion and death. This was approved. Subsequently, the Dong-tang Chief's Office was established and it was ordered that Xin-ba-di be appointed as chief. Dong-tang was the name of his land.
