They were sent Imperial orders of instruction as follows: "My Imperial father, the Gao Emperor Tai-zu, ordered the great general, the Kai-ping Prince Chang Yu-chun and the deputy general, the Qi-yang Prince Li Wen-zhong, to lead the troops on the Northern expedition. Although the Kai-ping Prince died in Liu-he-chuan, the deputy general, the Qi-yong Prince, led the troops in completely decimating the hu, thus bringing great merit to himself and achieving a place in the history books. You should be determined and strong, follow the example of your predecessors and take advantage of the Winter months when the miasmic vapours are in abeyance. Plan jointly with coordinated efforts and eliminate the rebellious bandits. Establish yourselves glorious names which will last for 10,000 generations by faithfully carrying out my commission."
