Previously, the Yun-nan assistant commissioner Wan Cheng and the Lin-an Guard commander Hua Song were both demoted for involvement in an offence. Cheng was demoted to a "service official" and Song was demoted to a soldier in order for them to realize achievements. At this time, the Regional Commander Mu Ang memorialized that Cheng and so on had realized achievements in eliminating the bandits at Dian-wei. The Emperor ordered that Cheng be appointed as a deputy guard commander and that Song be appointed as a deputy battalion commander, both in guards protecting the borders.
