27 Aug 1439
The Auxiliary Ministry of War advised: "The Commissioner-in-chief of the Right Mu Ang, grand defender of Yun-nan, has memorialized a list of the names of 8,364 officers and men who realized achievements in eliminating man bandits in Lu-jiang. The Deputy Regional Commissioner Chen Rong and others who took three heads of more, should be promoted one grade. Those who were acting in posts should be given substantive rank. Those officials who were serving in order to realize achievements should be re-instated in their posts. The Chiefs of Chief's Offices should be promoted to pacification officers, while retaining charge of the affairs of their own offices. The local commanders should be promoted to police officers, while continuing to act as local commanders. The sons of those who died in battle could, after investigation, be promoted in their father's stead. For those who took two heads or less, those who killed elephants and those persons who accompanied the expedition, appropriate levels of rewards should be set down. This will encourage the officers and men to struggle bravely in killing the bandits and thereby eliminating the border troubles." The Emperor ordered that the proposals be implemented without delay.
