The Ministry of War requested that the Yun-nan regional inspector be required to investigate the achievements in the capture of the Jiao yi. This was done in accordance with a request by the Grand Coordinator Chen Yong-bin. Although the major leaders were not captured, in the victory at Ba-zhai, Huang Wen-tong (Alt: Wang Wen-tong) was beheaded, Li Shi-mao was captured and Bai Lin surrendered. The grand coordinator had proposed: "As the Xu-lu Assistant Regional Commander Zhang Shi-ming* and the Education Intendent and acting Lin-an military defence circuit official Fan Yun-lin made good plans and achieved victory, they should be generously rewarded. The Guang-nan native chieftain Nong Ying-zu allowed the rebellious bandits to remain and helped the Jiao bandits. Under the law, he should be severely punished. However, after the earthquake, it is not propitious to advance troops. He should be ordered to capture Nong Jin-gui and Li Shi-hua in order to atone for his crimes. This will obviate the need for an expedition. Those government troops who died in battle, including Shu Qi-long (Alt: Shi Ying-long) and so on, as well as those troops and housemen who were injured in battle, should be shown pity and rewarded." This was approved. *Shen-zong juan 436 records name of this person as "Zhang Ming-shi".
