The Auxiliary Minister of Rites Hu Ying memorialized: "The Jiao-zhi native-official subprefectural Magistrate Ruan De-yu, the Company Commander Ding She as well as other assistant subprefectural magistrates, county vice magistrates, assistant instructors, functionaries and clerks who previously came as official messengers, came on completion of nine years in their posts or came while mourning for deceased parents, had previously started to return to Jiao-zhi with their wives, children and other family members. However, while on the road, they heard that the government troops had already returned and that the bandits had occupied the city. None of them wish to return and they have advised the officials of this. They have thus been sent back to the capital and now wish to reside at the capital." The Emperor ordered that they all be given housing and salaries in accordance with their grades. Those without salaries were to be given a monthly allowance of 1 shi of rice. The family members of deceased officials were to be given a monthly allowance of 5 dou of rice. Ying further memorialized that previously, when the Jiao-zhi native-official guard commander Wu Xiao-xian, as well as a subprefectural magistrate and other officials wished to reside in the capital, silver, paper money, variegated silks, thin silks and cotton cloth were conferred upon them. The Emperor ordered that the same amounts be authorized in accordance with the precedent.
