Ge Ding-yuan, surveillance vice commissioner of the Jiao-zhi Surveillance Commission, was retired on account of age and illness. Ding-yuan had his origins in Hai-yan, Zhe-jiang. From investigating censor, he was promoted to vice commissioner. He was self-controlled and did not seek fame. After completing nine years in his post, he was re-appointed to that post. However, when he arrived at Lian-zhou, the roads were already blocked and he returned to the capital. At this time, as he was old and ill, it was ordered that he be retired.
