The envoy sent by Hu Di, the king of the country of Annam, presented a memorial expressing gratitude for Imperial kindness. The Emperor sent orders to the officials of the Ministry of Rites, instructing them as follows: "Annam has, since ancient times, considered itself a country conversant with propriety. Now Si-ming Prefecture has said that Lu Subprefecture, Xi-ping Subprefecture and Yong-ping Stockade have been part of their territory since ancient times, but that as these areas adjoin Annam, Annam had wrested these areas from them. When the envoy returns, he is to tell the king of the country that territory which does not belong to Annam mu st be swiftly returned, and that he should protect his territory, look to his own affairs and pay attention to cultivating good relations with neighbours. In this way, he will long enjoy prosperity and honour."
