As the generals and troops of the force sent to subdue the South were to be subject to the heat of the Summer and the Emperor was concerned that this might lead to illness or death, he sent an envoy with incense and silks to widely offer sacrifices to the spirits of the mountains, towns, seas and rivers and to the spirits of the mountains, rivers and cities in Annam, and thereby request their assistance.
