The Commander Li Gui, deputy regional commander of the Guang-dong Maritime Patrol Route, memorialized: "Bandit ships came to Yu-hong Village in Qin Subprefecture, attacked and pillaged the people and burnt their houses. The government troops pursued them to the seas off Wan-ning County in Jiao-zhi. There, the troops came across 20-plus bandit ships which they vigorously attacked. The number of bandits killed and the number drowned were beyond count. Also, 11 "teng-bu" (藤步) ships were captured and the bandits heads were hoisted on the seas. The bandit followers Fan Ya and Ruan Bian as well as their family members, both men and women, have been sent to the capital in fetters." It was ordered that the judicial officers investigate and punish the offenders in accordance with the law.
