The Tai-ping Prefecture Rear Battalion under the Nan-ning Guard Independent Battalion in Guang-xi advised: "The city where we are based is close to the border and is near to Jiao-zhi. We are surrounded on four sides by native-official offices. They frequently employ troops and engage in feuding and killing. Recently, there has been a long period of rain and the walls of the city have collapsed. We are concerned that the yi people will take advantage of the troubles and spy for opportunities. It is requested that labor be despatched from nearby military guards to repair the walls." This was approved.
