Imperial orders were sent to Ding Xuan, assistant censor-in-chief of the right in the Auxiliary Censorate. The orders read:" .....You are to send Imperial orders to the native-official offices and then you and the Regional Commander Mu Ang are to act as the situation demands. If, apart from their soldiers already deployed for training, they have other strong native troops or native people under their charge, select a further 10,000 or 20,000, have native-official chieftains take command of them and have them train and await deployment where they are..."
