Previously, the Yun-nan Regional Commander and Commissioner-in-Chief of the Left Mu Ang, the Deputy Regional Commander and Commissioner-in-Chief of the Right Wu Liang, the Assistant Regional Commander of the Left and Assistant Commissioner-in-Chief Ma Xiang, the Assistant Regional Commander of the Right and Assistant Commissioner-in-Chief Zhang Rong and the Eunuch Directors Wu Cheng and Ji Xiang received an Imperial command requiring them to proceed on expedition against the Lu-chuan bandit Si Ren-fa. When they reached Jin-chi, they delayed and did not proceed forward. Ang and so on ordered Rong to lead a vanguard force forward. When he reached Mang-bu and such places, he sent out scouts. The bandits were spying on them and, when they reached the camp, Rong only ordered the Commissioner Lu Yue out to oppose them. This resulted in the bandits killing the government troops and defeating them. When Rong found out, he abandoned his tallies and weapons and fled. Ang and so on were very close, but did not provide assistance. When the matter was advised, the six Offices of Scrutiny and the 13 Circuits memorialized an impeachment. The Emperor ordered that Ang's death sentence be recorded and that he be demoted to Vice Commissioner-in-Chief. Liang and so on were fettered and sent to the capital for investigation. At this time, the three Judicial Offices conferred with the joint ministers in an examination and investigation of the case. They concluded that Liang and so on should be executed. The Emperor ordered that the offenders be taken into custody.
