It was ordered that Dai Lun, vice minister of the right in the Auxiliary Ministry of War, proceed to Jiao-zhi to assist in military matters. Imperial orders were conferred upon Lun as follows: "You are to proceed to Jiao-zhi as deputy to the Minister Chen Qia and are to assist the Rong-chang Earl in military matters. Border tasks are extremely important. You will be the second of the six ministers. In advising and assisting, you should be upright, attentive, diligent and thorough, so that you can fulfil the task I have commissioned you with. As you proceed, you should be aware of my Will. Respect this."
